1SG(R) Robert Maggot, 2016

He couldn't remember yesterday, but he can remember the old days.  We got together to tell old stories.  That's how it started

I found out he was sick, in hospice.  Couldn't even talk because of throat cancer.  I thought, why haven't I continued Heroes I Know.

Joe designed a coin and a t-shirt.  I bought a setup record video and audio.  Began to teach myself how to be a better video editor.  We pooled our money to buy the coins, the boxes.  We invested in Monday.com to share our data with each other and Dropbox for file sharing.  We paid so much money from our own pockets for coins, boxes, computers and t-shirts that our significant others were worried.

Words from Joe Benson

  •  I started my career in the mid nineties in the United States Navy. I was an aviation boatswain’s mate handler onboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69 for three years. I met my wife of 22 years, Carla, on that boat and we have two amazing son’s Cody and Ryan and our animal family Marley, Luna and Lily, the cat.
  • I had a break in service and worked a few cool jobs that I’ll tell you about. I was an oilfield service technician at National OilWell Inc. then moved on to Champion Elevators as an elevator technician. I installed elevators at businesses around the world and was in charge of my own hub in Georgia in conjunction with our parent company.
  • In 2005, I joined the Army as a Patriot Missiles Operator/Maintainer. It was there that I honed my skills to open up several opportunities for myself. To include an AIT instructor for (advanced initial training of soldiers), EO advisor at the Brigade level, Sexual Assault Advocate at the Brigade level, MRT trainer/instructor level 2, HAZ 12 NCO at the battery level, senior EMMO (electronic missile maintenance officer) while deployed during wartime.
  • My accolades include several ARCOM’S AND AAM’S as well as an MSM (meritorious service medal), a recipient of the Honorable Order of St. Barbara, soldier of the year in 2006 and an honor graduate at WLC/PLDC (warrior leadership course). I was also Instructor of the Cycle (AIT) in 2011 and competed in Instructor of the Year at Ft. Sill, OK.
  • Keep watching and you’ll get to learn more about my army life and my stories.
  • It’s been such a pleasure working with Will. We work our best together to bring you all of the treasured stories that you will cherish….For generations to come
